Grooming Rake Cat Comb

At Totally Feline ™️, we understand how challenging it can be to care for cats with medium to long coats, especially when matting becomes a persistent issue. Even with consistent grooming, tangles can form quickly, turning what should be a calming routine into a stressful experience for both you and your cat.

We encountered this firsthand with Ella Julia, whose beautiful medium-length coat was prone to frequent matting. After trying a variety of grooming tools and techniques, we set out to find a solution that would be both effective and gentle. Through careful research and testing, we discovered a grooming rake specifically designed to work with the undercoat of medium- to long-haired cats.

What sets this tool apart is its ability to glide through the coat while minimizing discomfort. Rather than pulling or tugging like traditional combs, the rake is designed to gently separate and loosen mats at the undercoat level. This significantly reduces stress and helps protect the skin from irritation or breakage.

Since introducing this grooming rake into her routine, Ella Julia has become noticeably more relaxed during grooming sessions. What was once a source of tension is now a manageable—and even peaceful—experience, allowing her to maintain her soft, luxurious coat with ease.

How it works

The grooming rake is designed with specialized teeth that reach deep into the coat, targeting mats at their source. By carefully breaking apart tangles instead of pulling through them, it helps preserve coat health while minimizing discomfort.

This type of grooming rake is widely available at major pet retailers and can be an excellent addition to your at-home grooming routine—particularly for cats with dense or longer coats.

Keep Your Feline Friend Hydrated

Keep Your Feline Hydrated: The Benefits of Water Fountains

Even though cats evolved from desert dwellers and require less water than dogs, the average domestic cat still isn't getting enough hydration. Their ancestors consumed a significant amount of moisture through their prey; however, the modern cat’s diet often consists of dry kibble containing only 10% to 12% water.

To increase your cat's water intake, consider adding a water fountain to your home. Studies suggest that most cats prefer flowing water over the stagnant water found in a traditional bowl.

If a fountain fits your budget, Totally Feline ™ Totally Feline CC™ highly recommends purchasing one. Here are a few key benefits:

  • Encourages Drinking: Particularly helpful for cats that are traditionally "water-shy."
  •  Greater Appeal: Moving water is more enticing to a cat’s natural instincts than a stationary bowl.
  • Reduces Mess: Discourages cats from "batting" at the water and splashing it onto your floors.
  • Soothing Environment: The sound and movement of a fountain can be calming for many cats.
  •  Prevents Whisker Stress: Fountains often provide easier access than deep, narrow bowls.
  • Cleaner Water: Continuous filtration keeps water fresher than a standing bowl.

Health Benefits: Increased hydration helps prevent dehydration, urinary tract infections, and kidney disease.

Managing Noise Sensitivity

Some cats may be startled by the sound of the motor. If your cat is hesitant, you can acclimate them by:

  • Running the fountain for short periods at a time.
  • Increasing usage once your cat displays signs of relaxation, such as a soft body posture when approaching the fountain.

Hydration Goals

Cats are notorious for drinking only when they feel a physical "thirst" cue. Most veterinarians recommend that a cat drink 1 ounce of water per pound of body weight daily.

However, every cat is unique. It is crucial to give your pet a choice by offering both a water fountain and stationary bowls in different locations throughout your home. Multiple watering stations are highly recommended, especially in multi-cat households.

Maintenance Tip: Don’t forget to replace the filter every 2 to 4 weeks (more frequently if you have multiple cats) to ensure the highest water quality for your feline family members.

Fun Fact: Did you know that cat water fountains can also be a great water source for indoor birds?

Lightweight Clay Litter

Recently, I had the chance to experience cat litter that was lightweight.

The lightweight clay litter was very impressive. The texture was consistently soft and softness is unbelievable. Even the finely grinded clay litter couldn't compare to this texture. This clay letter seems to elicit a response of digging more than the average clay litter.

Now I tested the lightweight clay litter to see if I could tell the difference between the weight of the lightweight litter and the regular clay litter. The lightweight clay litter was much easier to handle than the average clay litter. So I did some research on the lightweight clay litter to see what produces this texture and weight.

According to my research lightweight clay litter is produced from natural lightweight minerals. Depending on the litter it could also be made from recycled paper and silica gel.

However, the same thing that makes lightweight clay litter great can also have its downside. Because it is so lightweight it tends to stick to cat’s feet and hair tracking litter everywhere. Additionally, the lightest tends to encourage digging in cats tossing litter all over the place.

And, walking on this lightweight clay litter is equivalent to walking on a sandy beach and coming home tracking sand all over your house. Everyone who has vacuumed beach sand out of their carpet and sweeping a sand tracked floor knows how hard that can be. The tracking is HORRIBLE. Even worse than your average clay litter.

Nevertheless, a solution to that problem is you can use a litterbox mat to control the litter tracking. Besides excessive tracking, lightweight clay litter is great. Its pros outweigh its cons.

•Lightweight clay litter eliminates heavy litter boxes and trash bags.

• Great at clumping urine.

• Good for cats that's tactile sensory sensitive

Totally Feline ™ recommends the lightweight textured clay litter 4 of 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐
